House 42 Created 17th Century Dutch Style Botanical Illustrations

House 42 researched and drew images of plants that might have been present on Mannahatta in 1609. These are plants that also could have been growing during the time of New Amsterdam and our Archaeological dig.

Stroy and photos submitted by: Maxie Harnik
We used this website from the Welikia Project to find information about and images of the plants. https://welikia.org/download/flora-and-fauna/?atbsub=5

After making our initial drawings, we transferred them to hemp paper and added color to them using paint we made ourselves with the help of visiting artist Patricia Miranda. Enjoy our final illustrations in the style of scientific 17th Century Dutch botanical illustrations.
