Dalton Science Research Program Represented at the NYC Metro Semifinals of the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium

Dalton Juniors Simone Braunstein and Michael Won represented Dalton's Science Research Program as Semifinalists in the NYC Metro Junior Science and Humanities Symposium on Sunday, February 8th,.  The Dalton Science Research Program encompasses several elective prerequisite course options at Dalton, including the Science Seminar and Scientific Argument Analysis classes, and may then include a research internship for students who wish to pursue an extended independent research project.
All JSHS applicants submitted a research paper, which was reviewed and evaluated by college faculty and practicing scientists and engineers. After evaluation, judging committees of researchers selected 170 Semifinalist students from the NYC Metro area who submitted the best papers.  They were invited to participate in the Symposium to make a presentation and engage in a Q&A session.  Judging committees, comprised of college faculty and practicing scientists and engineers, follow the guidelines of the Academy of Applied Sciences

The New York City Metro and NY Long Island regional JSHS is sponsored by the research arm of the Department of Defense through the Academy of Applied Sciences.  The mission of the NYC Metro and NY Long Island regional JSHS is to:  Promote research and scholarship in the sciences, engineering and mathematics; recognize and reward research and scholarly achievements; network to enrich understanding of research and scholarly pursuits beyond high school; advance in local, regional, national and international symposia; develop skills to help prepare for undergraduate and graduate studies; to apply scientific concepts and principles to solve problems; to gain/create new knowledge; and to engage in presentations and writing.
