It isn't lost on Carmen Herrera’s students that Spanish is considered to be one of the romance languages. With the season in mind, they cleverly applied their language learning, starting with the word, corazón, meaning heart in Spanish and evoking love. So, while love is in the air, Ms. Herrera and her students thought it might as well be on the walls.
The fifth through twelfth-grade students wrote Valentine's messages on hearts and placed them everywhere on the walls and in the elevators. In the spirit of integrated language learning, the students’ ultimate goal was to get people talking about "love" using Spanish and to promote nice and friendly conversation during this cold and gray week.
