Second Grade House Holds a Mock Landmark Commission Hearing

The Proposal:
To knock down one of Dalton's School buildings, built in 1908, and replace it with a new 12 story building made of glass. Heidi, from the Friends of the Upper East Side Historic District, explained to House 35 what makes a landmark, discussed historic districts and described how the Landmark Commission makes important decisions regarding historic preservation.
The Upper East Side Historic District is one of New York City’s largest landmark districts. Designated in 1981, this district stretches along Fifth Avenue from 59th Street to 78th Street, and at certain points, as far east as Third Avenue.
