Varsity Track Teams Private School Athletic Association Champions
On a glorious Thursday afternoon at Astoria Park, the boys and girls track and field teams won the PSAA championships. It was the first time since 2007 that the boys were champions and that same year was the last time both the boys and girls won the titles.
Dylan Fine '16 established the pace for the boys team. He was the league's MVP, after winning the 800, 1600 and 3200. Dylan also anchored the 4x400 team to a gold medal as well. Other event winners for the boys included Jream Henderson '17 in the 400 and Eron Swan '16 in the triple jump. Henderson, Fine, Benji Stoll '15 and Josh White-Jamison '15 won the 4x400. Jordan Chambers '17 placed second in the 100 and long jump and was part of the 4x100 team that finished second. Swan, Arjun Prasad '18 and Sam Kim '18 were on that squad. Elias Oakes '16 placed third in the 3200 and Henderson was third in the 800 to round out the medal winners for the Tigers. The boys team outscored the next closest team by 40 points.
Not to be outdone, the girls team also had a fantastic day winning the league for the 10th time in 11 years. The Tigers, who won last year's meet by just two points, were tied with Long Island Lutheran going into the final event this year. The 4x400 team of Lucy Dolan-Zalaznick '15, Tyler Love '16, Lily Steinman '18 and Maisie Fisher '17 sealed the victory with a second place finish in the event as their teammates cheered them on from around the track. Dolan-Zalaznick won the long jump, triple jump and 800 to earn MVP honors. Sunaina Danziger '15 was victorious in the 400 and placed third in the 800. Grace Welle '16 and Olivia Tanzman '16 went 1-2 in the shot put. Tyler Love '16 came in third in the 100 hurdles.
Dolan-Zalaznick capped off her weekend competing in the prestigious Loucks Games where she finished third out of 31 athletes in the pentathlon setting a school record in the process.
