All first graders participated in the annual First Grade Walk-a-thon. To kick off the walk, the entire first grade walked around the block together. Then, each House walked around the block ten times.
Some of the money that the children raised through this walk-a-thon helps support the Dalton Ujima Project. This is a K-12 initiative that helps send students in Kenya to school. The rest of the funds collected will be divided evenly among the five first grade houses. Each House will donate the funds to one or more charities researched and chosen by the students. This enables the children to be directly involved in thinking about global concerns and how best to address them.
With pledges from parents, friends, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents and neighbors, the children will raise enough money to help make a difference. The pledge form can be found on all First Grade House Bulletin Boards. Thank you for supporting the first grade students in this endeavor.
