Nate Schuman at the 2014 World Youth Chess Championship

The World Youth Chess Championship is just what it says: the best young players in the world gather somewhere and slug it out over the chessboard. This year the tournament is being held in Durban, South Africa and Dalton chess prodigy Nate Schuman '24 is one of the leaders on the team from the United States in the Under 8 section.
After seven rounds Nate has racked up a very impressive five points (four wins, two draws, and only one loss).   At the beginning of the tournament, he was listed as 54th out of 64 players. He now stands in 10th place with four games to go in this eleven round tournament. Whatever happens next, he has delivered an outstanding performance, and we are all very proud of his achievement.
