Dalton Athletics Enjoying Strong Winter Season

Many Dalton teams have had success this winter with a number of teams preparing for postseason opportunities.
Dalton basketball teams have been dominant this season. The Girls team continues their remarkable run. Having won back-to-back NYSAIS championships, Dalton has been perfect thus far, going 12-0, including victories in prestigious showcase events, the She Got Game and Rose Classics. Dalton has won 25 straight games dating back to last season, and their command over the Ivy League persists, having not dropped a league game in nearly four years. They are ranked number one in NY State Class A.

The Boys opened the season by winning the Invitational Tournament, and after two subsequent losses, the Boys Basketball team has won nine consecutive games winning eight by double-digits. The team wrapped up an impressive week coming off break that included a last-second win over an undefeated Avenues team and a 15-point victory this past Friday over a tough league foe in Riverdale.

Dalton's Indoor Track team continues to grow and set new records, including the 4x400 team competing in the Millrose qualifiers and setting a new school indoor record with a time of 4:15:13, just barely missing a national qualifying standard. The team has one final league developmental competition before the championship season begins, with the Ivy League Championship on February 15 and the NYSAIS Championship on February 21.

The Boys and Girls Squash teams have shown significant improvements; both teams have already surpassed last year's win totals. Both teams head into a pivotal matchup against Hackley next week as they pursue their goal of qualifying for the NYSAIS Tournament. The Dalton Wrestling and Swimming teams have seen several strong individual performances this season. The Wrestling team competed in the David Sorensen Memorial Invitational Wrestling Tournament yesterday with five of Dalton’s wrestlers winning medals.

The varsity swim team began their 2024 Ivy League action with a very close meet at Riverdale with both teams taking first in several events throughout the afternoon. If both the boys and girls teams can keep swimming with such great energy it could be an exciting second half of the season and NYSAIS championships in just four weeks.

As many varsity teams are gearing up for the playoffs, we hope every Dalton Tiger is gearing up for Warren Hines Night on Friday, February 2. Dalton is doing a "Blue-Out" in which all fans are invited to attend the games in Dalton blue to match our athletes on the court. JV games begin at 4 pm; you can find the whole schedule on the Dalton website.
