Dalton Alumni Go Forth Unafraid with COVID-19 Relief Efforts

Baxter Allen ’01 is a neurointensivist who is managing an ICU for COVID-19 patients at New York Presbyterian-Queens.


Jeffrey Alpert ’76 is an MD currently living in Denver who returned to New York to work in a COVID Care Force at Jamaica Hospital in Queens through Heart to Heart International. 


Jason Chinitz ’99 is a cardiologist at Southside Hospital, Northwell Health in Long Island and is honored to be able to help care for patients with COVID-19.


Elizabeth Dickey '84 serves as a hospital chaplain, providing comfort and ministering to patients and staff.

Jonathan Ehrlich '07 has been a volunteer EMT with the Central Park Medical Unit (CPMU) for over 11 years. CPMU is an all-volunteer ambulance that has been in Central Park since 1975 providing 100% free medical care. For the past few weeks we have been responding to 9-1-1 calls all over NYC at the request of FDNY.


Liz Hamburg ’82 and her company Candoo Tech are working remotely to help older adults use technology to stay safe and better connected -- from teaching people how to use Zoom and FaceTime to getting them onto doctor’s portals. Last week, Liz and her team helped a 105 year old man who is quarantined alone in his nursing home to teach him how to take photos with his iPhone and email them to his doctor. 


Wende Gelbe '06 is a Pediatric Emergency Medical Fellow at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and is very proud to be a doctor in the New York City public health system.

 

Michal Melamed '91 is a nephrologist at the Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. Over 50% of patients with COVID-19 who are on a ventilator also develop kidney disease requiring dialysis. Since the pandemic began, Michal has been responsible for keeping her fellows safe as well as direct patient care to help save as many lives as possible.

  

 

Emily Lebowitz '08 is a doctor providing care in a COVID-19 unit.


Melissa Frey Levine '00 is performing COVID-19 nasal swabs and screenings for symptomatic women before their scheduled chemotherapy.


Elizabeth Odom '10 is working as a pediatric resident at Mount Sinai. She has been working extremely hard taking care of children who continue to require medical attention, while also working in the NICU, caring for babies of COVID positive mothers.

 

Gabriel Redel-Traub '10 was part of the 4th year class at NYU School of Medicine who was asked to graduate med school early to join the front lines of the COVID pandemic. Gabe wrote about the decision here and will be continuing to write for New York Magazine about his experience as an MD during these trying times.


Jamie Rosen Manning '07 is a front line provider working on a COVID-19 unit at Montefiore Hospital.

Peter Taub ’85 is the Program Director for Plastic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As part of the health system's response, he has led a team that has treated COVID-19 patients in the ICUs and ER across the system.
