Dalton’s Model Congress Team’s Preparation Pays Off at Harvard

Dalton’s Model Congress team traveled to Boston to compete in Harvard’s 35th annual conference on February 20.

Prepped with packets of notes and research for the subsequent three days, the Dalton team participated in congressional committees ranging from foreign affairs to energy and commerce. Led by Heads James Kuntz 20, Caitlin Monsky 20, and Nate Haberkern 20, the Dalton team went head to head with delegations from across the country, ready and excited to debate.

Harvard Model Congress, founded in 1986, attracted more than 1,000 students from dozens of schools around the world. Each delegate participated in government simulations with committee jurisdictions ranging from “Foreign Relations” and “Environment and Public Works” to the “National Governors’ Association.”

The conference formally recognized Dalton delegates for their individual performances including, 23 individual awards won by 27 students. Notably, 12 Dalton delegates received the Best Delegate award in their committee. Receiving more awards than any other delegation, it was clear that everyone’s hard work and hours spent researching paid off.

Although Harvard Model Congress is the last away conference of the year, the team will still participate in day conferences this spring such as Trinity and Spence Model Congresses. Dalton will host its own Model Congress Conference on May 9.
