4th Graders Enjoy Immersive Ellis Island Simulation

Fourth grade students participated in an Ellis Island Simulation on Tuesday, November 23 —  an annual, much enjoyed 4th grade activity.
For this immersive event, each child was assigned an identity of an immigrant from the year 1900. The students dressed as their immigrant characters, donning attire that an immigrant could have worn in that era.

For the past two months, the 4th graders have been studying European immigration to America through Ellis Island. Students received information about an immigrant that included a name, age, country of origin, the ship they are traveling on, the amount of money they have, health information, and religious and/or political leanings. As part of the assignment, students wrote extensive descriptions of their characters.
