Arte! Arte! Arte!

Ms. Nebres's Spanish 3HS class recently visited the Jewish Museum to view Marta Minujín’s retrospective exhibit Arte! Arte! Arte!
Michelle Marcus, Art historian and museum liaison, and Kris Santos, Dalton archivist, accompanied the group for a guided tour conducted exclusively in Spanish. The students connected the works of this experimental and conceptual female Latin American artist of Jewish descent with the vocabulary and themes related to art from the Assignment they are currently studying in Spanish class.

The bilingual descriptions throughout the exhibit provided additional opportunities for students to practice their interpretive reading skills. Students engaged in interpretive listening and interpersonal speaking activities as they listened to the lecture and asked questions to clarify their understanding of this extraordinary Argentinian pop artist and pioneer of performance art and soft sculpture. At 80, Marta Minujín’s extraordinary career spent in Buenos Aires, Paris, New York, and Washington, DC, spans six decades of exploration in painting, sculpture, installation, and performance.
