High School

Curriculum

The Dalton High School, an academically rigorous, caring, dynamic, diverse, college preparatory school, seeks to support the development of a community that values curiosity, the acquisition of knowledge, and the confidence to act to resolve social problems.
In the High School, students encounter a distinctive curriculum with many opportunities for choice and individualized work in academics, the arts, and physical education. Students must fulfill carefully defined departmental prerequisites and school-wide distribution requirements before the extensive elective process is available to them. Each students' House Advisors guides then in making appropriate choices.

The High School program is designed to help Dalton students learn to value knowledge for its intrinsic rewards and the beauty of its interrelationships. Thus, in addition to an understanding of a wide body of knowledge, a high degree of emphasis is placed on inquiry, experimentation, research, and analysis. The latter are the tools which will equip students to engage in the struggle to discover meaning in this highly technological and interconnected world. In an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation between adults and students, the High School strives to create a purposeful, productive, and joyful environment for learning.
